Lithology and Thickness

Fine-grained sandstone, Claystone and Sandstone. Comprising (in descending order): Well-bedded, soft, fine-grained, calcareous sandstone with gastropods, brachiopods, polyzoans, corals and ostracods (Late Carboniferous), 30 m thick. Grey and yellow shale, 150 m thick. Dark, hard, fine- to medium-grained, well-bedded sandstone c. 45 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

This is the oldest Formation in the unit.

Upper contact

Conformable with Kogwe Mudstone Fm

Regional extent

In the Mae Sot area of Thailand (Ueno & Charoentitirat 2011), the Taungnyo Fm correlates with the Pharaka Fm.
